As a regular photographer for De Standaard and documentary maker, I choose my topics carefully, providing necessary context and practical tips. From creative choices to the challenges of working in the field – my talks offer a fresh look at visual storytelling.

Bio

​​

​​Jimmy Kets (Belgium, June 2, 1979) studied at Sint-Lucas Antwerp, earning a Master's degree in Graphic Design & Illustration. His graduation project on street children in Kathmandu, Nepal, was a photo series presented in book form and led to a role as a photographer at De Morgen. In 2009, he joined De Standaard, where he continues to work today.

Kets has received several awards, including the Nikon Promising Young Photographer Award (2008) and the Nikon Award for Best Visual Story (2012).

Beyond his work in photojournalism and portrait photography for newspapers and magazines, Kets has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally through solo and group shows. He has also made several photobooks, including Brightside, Volkscafés, Niet Miss, and The Graves Are Nice This Time of Year.

In 2013, Kets directed his first documentary movie, OdysSea, about Magnum photographer Carl De Keyzer.

Since then, he has frequently worked as a cameraman on various TV projects such as België Scherpgesteld, Shalom Allemaal! and Wij zijn van Nienof!.

In 2023, he released his film New Pigs on the Block, which was nominated for an Ensor and won the Grand Prix at the Matsalu Nature Film Festival in Estonia.
